Comparison by type

The love expressions you each want

The two codes' expressions differ in both directions. Talk about the expressions of affection each of you actually wants.

  1. RCOANSLUAI
    A signal to make clearer

SLUAI wants to receive Words of affirmation. A gesture RCOAN could try: Do not put off saying “thank you” or “it is thanks to you”; say it that same day.

  2. SLUAIRCOAN
    A signal to make clearer

RCOAN wants to receive Acts of service. A gesture SLUAI could try: First ask whether any small help is wanted, then help only with what the other person wants.

Five situations for expressing affection

A personality profile is only a conversation starter. Ask each other which expressions you actually like and confirm them together.

An invitation to open up

  1. Propose
  2. Choose together
  3. Make the next plan
RCOAN → SLUAI · Words of affirmation
New expression to try

RCOAN tells SLUAI why the invitation matters: ‘I love hearing what has been on your mind. Could we make a little time for just us this week?’

SLUAI → RCOAN · Acts of service
New expression to try

SLUAI first asks RCOAN whether help is needed and, if wanted, looks into the meeting place or transport. Leave a choice: ‘Should I find two places, or would you rather choose and have me make the booking?’

What is one thing you would enjoy doing together this week?

Beside you on a hard day

  1. Ask what helps
  2. Choose the support
  3. Confirm understanding
RCOAN → SLUAI · Words of affirmation
New expression to try

RCOAN names what SLUAI has carried: ‘You worked hard just getting through that today. I want you to know I am on your side before we look for answers.’

SLUAI → RCOAN · Acts of service
New expression to try

SLUAI asks RCOAN which single task would lighten the day, then does only the help they chose. ‘I can wash the dishes tonight; tell me if you want anything else’ keeps the boundary clear.

Would listening, solving one thing together, or giving you room feel best right now?

Mending after a miss

  1. State the facts
  2. Name the impact
  3. Choose the next action
RCOAN → SLUAI · Words of affirmation
New expression to try

RCOAN acknowledges the impact on SLUAI before offering excuses: ‘I missed our agreed time, and that made you feel unimportant. I am sorry; next time I will message before I am late.’

SLUAI → RCOAN · Acts of service
New expression to try

SLUAI asks RCOAN which practical action would help repair the harm instead of using a favor as the apology. Do only what was agreed, then confirm, ‘This does not end here; I will follow through on the next steps too.’

What happened, how did it affect us, and what will we do differently next time?

Drawing the next chapter

  1. Share wishes
  2. Agree on roles
  3. Revisit together
RCOAN → SLUAI · Words of affirmation
New expression to try

RCOAN and SLUAI each choose one sentence they would like to hear more often. ‘It helps when you notice my effort’ gives the other something real to try and revisit next month.

SLUAI → RCOAN · Acts of service
New expression to try

SLUAI and RCOAN choose one recurring task and agree who will handle it. Check every time before using the other person’s time, entering their space, or accessing their accounts, then revisit in a month to see whether the division still feels fair.

What future do we each want, how will we share the roles, and when will we revisit the plan?

A conversation about fitting your lives together

Personality types can start a conversation; the two of you decide how daily life works. Open a topic and compare your real answers.

Money and gifts
  1. Ask each other

When would you split a date equally, and when would each pay for what they ordered?

  2. Check pressure and boundaries

What spending or gift price would feel burdensome, and is a return gift ever expected?

  3. Try one agreement

Before the next date, agree on a comfortable budget and how you will pay.

Friends and time alone
  1. Ask each other

How much time with friends, together, and alone feels comfortable in a typical week?

  2. Check pressure and boundaries

Can either person decline a friend gathering or the publication of a photo of you together without pressure?

  3. Try one agreement

Protect one block of personal time each and decide how to flag schedule conflicts.

Daily tasks and care
  1. Ask each other

Which recurring task would each of you like to take on, and which feels hard?

  2. Check pressure and boundaries

What sign would tell you the split has become unfair or exhausting?

  3. Try one agreement

Choose one task to divide this week, then check the workload together next week.

The pace of future plans
  1. Ask each other

Which next step, travel, living together, or a longer plan, would you like to discuss now?

  2. Check pressure and boundaries

Which decision are you not ready for or do not want?

  3. Try one agreement

Without rushing a decision, choose when to revisit the conversation and what to ask then.

Love notes for both types

How they show love

RCOANThe Steady Builder

You express love through action. You love through steady presence rather than words, through keeping promises, through working out what the other person practically needs and meeting it. Showy or emotional gestures feel uncomfortable, and your consistency itself is your declaration.

SLUAIThe Heart-Led Person

In love, you express your feelings intensely from the very beginning. When you feel drawn to someone, you do not hide it and devote yourself fully to them. Small things move you deeply, and when your partner is struggling, you set your own feelings aside for a while and try to understand theirs. You express love freely and actively show how you feel through touch and words. A partner feels strongly that they are special when they are with you.

What they need

RCOANThe Steady Builder

The thing you most need in a relationship is that your independence is respected. You need a partner who does not read your time alone, your thinking time, as distance or indifference. And you need a relationship steady enough that you are not the one managing someone else's emotional waves every time.

SLUAIThe Heart-Led Person

You need a partner who responds emotionally in full measure. Someone who gets excited when you do, and who can sit inside your sadness and feel it with you. A partner who tries to tidy your feelings with logic, or answers “do you really need to feel it that much?”, will exhaust you quickly. What fits is someone who can take the size of your feeling as it is, and who naturally gives you space when you are overloaded.

How closeness unfolds

RCOANThe Steady Builder

Early on you observe a lot and reveal little. You need a long stretch to work out whether someone can be trusted. Once you decide to open, that decision is firm. In conflict you move strongly toward analyzing the situation and proposing a solution rather than reacting emotionally.

SLUAIThe Heart-Led Person

The pattern that shows up often is fast deepening at the start. Feeling rises quickly, expectation rises with it, and when they cannot meet that expectation the disappointment is equally fierce. You also often fail to explain your overloaded state to your partner, and instead suddenly create distance or drop sharply in energy, leaving them confused. The same thing repeats: you absorb their feelings until you are the one struggling more.

What to mind in the relationship

RCOANThe Steady Builder

Your partner has to learn to read “I love you” out of your actions, because you will not say it often. But there is something for you to work on too. When your partner wants emotional confirmation, try once to put it into words even when that feels inefficient. That small attempt does a great deal to hold the temperature of the relationship.

SLUAIThe Heart-Led Person

You need to practice building emotional boundaries in the relationship. Feel what they feel alongside them, and build the skill of telling that feeling apart from your own. It also matters to say honestly when you are overloaded. Remember that the line “I'm pretty full right now, I'll take a moment alone and come back” does not cut the relationship; it is what makes it sustainable.

What triggers the guard

RCOANThe Steady Builder

Your guard rises when you are repeatedly pulled into inefficient or emotional situations, or when someone you trusted falls short of what you expected. The hardest shutdown comes when work you invested in is thrown out for emotional reasons.

SLUAIThe Heart-Led Person

You are wounded deeply when your partner tries to tidy your feelings with logic or answers “you don't need to feel it that much”. The sense of being abandoned is triggered by a partner who fails to notice you are overloaded and keeps asking for something, or who finds your swings burdensome and pulls away.

How distance shows up

RCOANThe Steady Builder

It shows as silence and distance. You are not talkative at the best of times, but once triggered you keep contact to an absolute minimum. You say “it's fine” while internally re-evaluating the relationship.

SLUAIThe Heart-Led Person

When feeling accumulates it erupts as sudden tears or as talking a great deal. You tend to express through the feeling itself rather than through clear language, so your partner sometimes cannot work out what the problem is. Sometimes you pour it out until they are worn down, and then feel guilty afterwards, and that pattern repeats.

What brings them back

RCOANThe Steady Builder

You need time to reorganize alone. Only after analyzing and sorting it thoroughly do you allow contact again. Afterwards you will not raise the incident directly, but the way you act shifts slightly.

SLUAIThe Heart-Led Person

Once you feel your emotion has been sufficiently received, you recover fast and reconnect warmly. After conflict you often attempt reconciliation through touch or through simply being together rather than a direct conversation. If confirmation arrives that they still accept you, that alone is enough.
