At the eye of SLOEN's vortex, someone like RCUAN can actually exist. SLOEN reads RCUAN's indifference as "finally, a space wide enough to hold all of my energy." RCUAN watches the vortex the way you'd watch weather. But RCUAN's emptiness slowly catches SLOEN's attention, and the more SLOEN tries to fill it with their own energy, the more clearly they bump into RCUAN's hollow.
RCUAN refuses to become SLOEN's center, but SLOEN keeps trying to make them one. RCUAN's openness doesn't constrain SLOEN's energy, and SLOEN's whirlwind doesn't bend RCUAN. Together, SLOEN feels "this is the only person who can take all of me," while RCUAN thinks "this energy is just one more phenomenon passing through." They build a relationship on completely different planes.
When SLOEN asks "will you be my center?" RCUAN answers, evenly, "I am not a center." SLOEN, stuck in that frustration, grabs harder. RCUAN, feeling the grab, drifts further. The "center" SLOEN is asking for is something RCUAN never had in the first place.
The easiest moments come when SLOEN pours all of their energy out and RCUAN absorbs it without judgment. But once that moment passes, RCUAN is still empty and SLOEN is still searching.
“For these two to stay, the word "center" has to be set down. SLOEN has to feel that RCUAN's emptiness is acceptance, not refusal. RCUAN has to be willing, sometimes, to let themselves be felt at the eye of SLOEN's storm. A relationship without a center can be just as deep as one built around one.”
