The Human Switchboard (full of ideas) and The Anxious Performer both build bridges between people. One with trust, one with emotion.
The Connector is a genius at linking people and ideas. The Performer wants to be on stage but feels anxious. At first, the Connector's warm linking ability stabilizes the Performer. The Performer feels less lonely with the Connector. The Connector also wants to understand the Performer's emotions. When they're together, they seem to complete each other. The Connector builds networks, and the Performer shines within them.
The Performer asks "Who am I closest to?" The Connector answers "We're all close." But the Performer hears "I'm not special." The Connector's broad connection toward everyone can mean abandoning the Performer to them. The Performer's anxious attachment exhausts the Connector, and the Connector's wide network feels cold to the Performer.
They work best when building networks together, but conflict arises when the Performer says "We need to be special." The Connector doesn't understand.
“For these two to work, the Performer needs to see the Connector's broad connections as diversity. The Connector should see the Performer as special, but the Performer needs to understand that specialness is depth, not exclusivity. Then they become partners who connect each other deeply.”
